“Why is my check engine light on?”
Engine warning lights come on for any number of reasons. As vehicle technicians we advise you not to ignore a warning light. Call us in the first instance just to make sure it is not serious. We would rather have a quick chat and put your mind at rest than overlook something serious.
We may ask you to bring your car in. In the workshop we have advanced diagnostic machines. We can plug these into your car and our technicians will interpret the data to let us know what is wrong.
Just be aware that these diagnostic systems work very well most of the time, but sometimes a small fault can cause big problems in a complex engine system. For example, we recently repaired a Mercedes-Benz that had a warning light and was permanently in limp mode. Limp-mode or limp-home mode feels like the engine has very little power, and is designed to protect the car by minimising damage when the car’s onboard computer detects a fault. We eventually traced the fault to a faulty sensor, there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car.
If there is a light on your dash indicating that there is something wrong with your car then call us on 020-8455-3373. We might be able to reassure you over the phone that it’s not anything to worry about or we can book it in if it does need attention. We can arrange pick up and delivery back to you if you are too busy to bring it in.
